Help for a young author?
I'm a young author who is writing several books... nine to be exact. I write in them as ideas come to me for each one... but I need help.
Maybe you can.
I have a cave in one of my books that is rather like Shadelight from Fable 3. If you don't know what that is or what it looks like, just google "Fable 3 Shadelight" then click on "images." Quite the creepy place... but that's okay for my book!
Here is the standard information :1. The two best known creatures in the cave are simply called : Nightmares. Though they are a very unique KIND of Nightmare. The two best known of this kind are known as Vindarr and Garnetta. They are brother ( older ) and sister ( younger ). They are physical bodies, but are unseen. They can only be seen by a certain way.
They must have the possession of a person... it can be a simple small lock of hair or an item they have in their inventory, such as a necklace or handkerchief.
Once they have this item, they can turn into that person so long as they have it on their person/body/thing. They choose to feed on someone who is in love.
So they split them apart, then prefer to take the item of person who is loved, and transform into said character. They then find the lover and pose as the loved one. When they have the chance, they Kiss the lover on the mouth, transferring a tasteless black venom into the lover's body. If they do not have the chance or they are revealed to not be who they appear as, they will either strike at you in anyway they can or force the Kiss upon you. The only way to tell them apart from the real person, is either by a simple slip of the tongue or by catching a glimpse of their black eyes.
Note : The reason why they prefer to choose those in love, is because when in in form of the loved character, the lover does not question the truth. And should they find out their hidden truth, if the Kiss is still performed, it can temporarily tricks the lover's mind into thinking of the real person the love rather than the impostor. This is only temporary, as I said before, it lasts about 30 seconds at the most; that is slightly under the amount of time they require to perform the Kiss.
2. The cave is different from Shadelight in the sense that, upon the cave walls each individual person sees what they fear most... spiders, death, an old memory, etc. It unnerves you piece by piece, it tortures you, it hurts you ( literally sometimes ), it call you names and makes you believe it... basically, it's your description of a pitch black Hell that hates light. You have a 1% of 1% of 1% chance of making it out alive.
3. These are the names I have so far... it doesn't matter if they're long.
Penumbra Cavern or Umbra Cavern
Crepuscule Cave
Brittlebone Cavern
Grotto of the Veiled Candor
Cave of the Nightmares, Vindarr and Garnetta
Cave of the Night Thorn ( because those who have made it out alive, but have experienced the venomous Kiss of Vindarr or Garnetta are marked with a band around their forehead that look like thorns...)
Quietus Harrow Cavern
The Dalliance Ending.
Second - question answered, thank you, Brittany.
Third, my newest book... is a story slightly like How to Train Your Dragon... but there is no Dragon war and such. My problem is : all the names for my characters either turn out typical, boring, and lame... that or just plain rubbish. I want names like in How to Train Your Dragon ( example : Stoick the Vast, Gobber the Belch, Hoark the Haggard, etc. ). I want weird interesting names like those! But I stink at coming up with them... really stink.
Fourth, again my newest book... I need Dragon names! Different species, I mean. What I have been doing is taking the dictionary and finding random words. Then I take those words and mix them around, changing the letters, taking some away, adding some more... you get the point. I want help in the same way... just look in the dictionary 'til you find a word or two you like... then either mix them around 'til it sounds good and Dragon-like or just give them to me and I'll do it! I need their names, AND what YOU think they should be like! Their details... I want the fine print! What do they look like? What colors can they come in? How big are they? What is their general personality? What do they do for defense and offense? What do YOU think of them as?!I'd prefer exact measurements... meaning how tall, wide, fat, from their horns to their isosceles... but they're not necessary. And you don't even have to do them! Give me a name ( and what word(s) it's from ) and I'll make whatever you don't want to!I'll give credit to whoever responds and gives me a name and age or town/city/country/state!
Thank you... K.A.C.E./KellyEdis
